Dreamdata without connecting a CRM

Updated by Ole Dallerup

It's most common to connect your CRM with Dreamdata. However, there are a few situations where you might want to avoid connecting a CRM, and luckily, Dreamdata has full support for that case.

When not to connect your CRM?

  1. Internal resource constraints make it hard to move fast.
    1. All you are trying to do is measure the top-of-funnel success.
    2. Or perhaps you want to get started now while CRM work gets prioritized.
  2. You don't have a CRM.
  3. Dreamdata does not natively support your CRM.
    1. Dreamdata does support CRM as a custom data source. You can read more here.
  4. You have sensitive data in your CRM that you, for privacy, legal, or contractual reasons, can't share with Dreamdata. For example, if you work with the public sector, healthcare, or other regulated industries.
    1. Your CRMs might have a complex permission model that can prevent Dreamdata from accessing sensitive data via the native CRM integration. Here, you can read more about Salesforce and HubSpot.
    2. Another option is to upload your CRM as a custom data source and remove all the sensitive data pre-upload.

How does Dreamdata work without CRM?

Dreamdata works in almost the same way without having a primary CRM connected. However, there are a couple of things to be aware of.

Accounts / Companies

Because there is no root system to read the account setup, Dreamdata will use the email domain to link users into an account structure. Dreamdata will ensure only to use of business email domains.

Dreamdata will first associate users to accounts based on their email domain, then fall back using IP->Company data.

Opportunities / Deals (Stage Models)

Because there is no CRM, Dreamdata won't have a data source for opportunities/deals, so Dreamdata won't be able to associate revenue or closed won deals with activity.

Instead, customers typically measure sign-ups, demo-requests, or similar. This is great if you primarily try to measure the top-of-funnel or while preparing for a full Dreamdata setup.
